Wilson, the Furever Friend

Hello dear Friends!  I hope you are enjoying Spring here in gorgeous Colorado, even if we just had snow on April 29th!  Today, we want to bring some sunshine happiness into your life by telling you about our Valentine’s Day senior dog photo session with sweet Wilson and his dad in Littleton, CO. Wilson is an 11-year old, adorable and gentle, little Jack Russell mix.

When Wilson’s dad reached out to us, we became immediately emotionally invested in his story.  You see, Wilson’s dad is a retired widower. Before his wife passed, she rescued and gave him Wilson (named after Tom Hanks’ loyal volleyball companion “Wilson” in the movie Castaway).  Wilson came into their lives, so his dad would not be alone after she was gone.  Wilson truly became that amazingly faithful and loyal companion that he was meant to be.   As his dad describes him, “Wilson is mostly quiet, though he continues to be  great little watchdog.  He spends most of his days lying  in whatever sun he can find, or on my lap.  Because I was gone a lot during the day, I adopted another little one, Carly, about 10 months ago, who has been really good for him.”  Now, at 11 years old, Wilson was recently diagnosed with melanoma. The vet oncologist advised that dogs with this kind of tumor, which they did remove, have a life expectancy of less than 6 months.  That’s when Wilson’s dad reached out to set up a professional pet photography session to celebrate his little guy and their bond.

Our session took place quite aptly on Valentine’s Day morning. We met at a beautiful park near Wilson’s home and had an absolute blast. The trees were still bare from old man Winter, but the geese were swimming in the pond and the golden sun peaked through creating some gorgeous lighting and a calming mood. Wilson was a star doggie model! He and his dad got to share a few precious moments together as well. It was truly a session I’ll never forget. Not only because of what Wilson means to his dad, but because Wilson taught me, as so many pets do, that they have the power to help heal our hearts. They give us so much more than wet nosed-kisses and cuddles. They truly fill our hearts will so much love and kindness.

Thankfully, Wilson’s treatments, including supplements and CBD oil have done miracles for Wilson and this little guy is doing really well! We couldn’t be happier to hear that Wilson and his dad are getting to enjoy this additional time together, and we wish Wilson many years of health and tail-wagging!

Below are some of our favorite images from Wilson’s session. And perhaps the best gift in return we got were Wilson’s dad’s kind words when he left his review for us:

“I contacted Christina when my Wilson the Dog was diagnosed with melanoma because my daughter and I decided it would be important to have some legacy photos of him. She has been amazing to work with from the moment I first contacted her to the receipt of the finished photographs! She is professional, efficient and a terrific photographer. Plus, she absolutely LOVES animals! I have already begun recommending Wag Your Tail Pet Photography to my friends and family. Thank you, Christina!”

Let's schedule a photo shoot!
